Quint & Leah Pottinger
New Haven, Kentucky
The Pottinger family has been farming the land since Samuel Pottinger settled the town of New Haven in the late 1780s. Quint and Leah Pottinger, the current generation, established Affinity Farms in 2012. Affinity Farms strives to combine the latest technology in growing row crops like corn and soybeans alongside vegetables. They sell their produce directly to consumers in local markets and see this as an opportunity to create a transparent dialog about the entire agriculture industry. The farm is 100% no-till farming for all crops which means each crop is planted into the crop residue left over from the previous year’s crop. This technique protects the valuable soil resource from erosion. They also plant winter cover crops to protect the soil on any land with moderate slope and employ the latest fertilizer management techniques.
“Farming is something that we love. The dirt doesn't just stain our hands it runs deep in our blood. We want to share our affinity for farming with our friends, neighbors, and community. We want people to see the love and value of the farm the way we experience it.”
–Quint Pottinger

Blue Mound, Illinois
A Noland has been farming in Central Illinois for eight generations. Grant and Logan Noland are proud of the history and tradition that has provided the foundation for their modern farming operation that puts a premium on innovation and precision.
“Through technology we are using fewer resources to produce more. For instance GPS has been a key platform that helps us collect and manage information better. Machinery companies, software developers and seed and chemical companies are collaborating in ways that have made data one of the most important tools on the farm. The result is we use less fuel, less fertilizer, and less pesticide and that’s good news from both a business and environmental perspective,”
–Grant Noland
Besides the day-to-day responsibility of operating a farm, Grant serves as Treasurer of the operation and does input purchasing, financial analysis and record keeping. Their family farm’s typical crop rotation is 70 percent corn and 30 percent soybeans which are grown across five counties in central Illinois. Together, they enjoy spending time outdoors and serving in their church.
